Symmetry Nos. 11-55
In 2002, I wrote these five short piano works exploring the many ways I could use symmetry in music. This is the result.
No. 11 - mirror piece - symmetrical from midpoint.
No. 22 - only the melodic line is symmetrical; free harmonization
No. 33 - only the left hand is symmetrical; free right hand.
No. 44 - symmetrical from midpoint, but the material from the right hand switches to the left and vice versa.
No. 55 - symmetrical from midpoint, but the material from the right hand switches to the left, but based on position on the staff and not on note value (i.e., an E4 on the bottom line of the treble clef becomes an A3 in the bass clef).
